Safe Sleep
ST HELENS SAFER SLEEPING TOOLKIT AND GUIDANCE FOR PROFESSIONALS
The purpose of this guidance is to help those supporting children and families to give appropriate information and advice to parents and carers to enable them to make an informed choice about safer sleeping arrangements for their babies.
The guidance outlines the key risk and protective factors associated with a baby’s sleeping environment which have been identified from national and international research. While there is no advice which guarantees the prevention of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), it is important that parents and carers are informed that the risk can be considerably reduced if the relevant advice is followed.
PAN - MERSEY SAFER SLEEP CONVERSATION TOOL
The document is to enable all professionals who might be going into a family home to spot any potential unsafe sleep environments for babies and young children and to be able to have conversations with parents and carers about safer sleep. SIDS claims the lives of around 3 babies every week in the UK (2020), so it is important that all professionals are having these conversations, not just our health colleagues.
